Kevin Doberstein, artist. Contemporary Abstract Sculpture Artist.
Hi, I'm Kevin Doberstein. Please travel on my mystical journey of inspiring art.
Artist Statement:
My father was a logger/sawmill owner showing me all the toughness and harshness that comes with it.
That world can be enduring, hard, and demanding.
But I always love the elegance and charm of the wood.
And now, I create all the beauty that comes with my chosen medium.
Traveling on my artistic journey, I also found a path of peace and tranquility.
And the road is now smooth and quiet.
Bio:
I was raised on a sawmill literally in the backyard. And in a logging environment for the majority of my life in northern Wisconsin. This lifestyle can be enduring to the artistic soul. The winters are brutally cold and long. During the Spring and Fall, it seems you were wallowing in a mixture of mud and wood bark to the knees. And the Summers are very short. There always seemed a cold-hearted mentality goes with this climate.
I was always looking forward to escaping from it. This usually in deep-hearted dreams of traveling to the warm southwest and taking a new home. I still envision that dream and float on cedar and sage drifting on the warm winds.
But I still live here in northern Wisconsin, nicknamed the land of the tundra. Eventually, I did go back to school and earned an accounting and business degree. After many years of achieving my living as a finance director, I moved on.
Serendipity: But the need to create was still burning with-in. The connection to the feel of wood fiber in my hands was still there. It was time to connect to the beauty of the wood. But this time as an artistic medium and creating picturesque pieces of art.
With my artistic medium of wood, I generally create in the outside elements. When the environment becomes harsh outdoors, I go in. And read a book while enjoying a cappuccino.
